Mask

2021

earthenware and elastic band

5 x 5.75 x 2 inches

I created this work during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when masks became both a physical necessity and a metaphor for how we navigate the world. We all wear figurative masks, adapting our personalities to different situations, making it hard to see our true selves. The pandemic added a layer of complexity, as physical masks blurred not only facial expressions but also verbal cues, changing how we connect with others. This piece symbolizes self-protection and reflects a new dimension of our daily lives, shaped by the need for distance and adaptation.
