The "Turned woman" series illustrates the power imbalances within male-dominated cultures.
Through striking a pose as a young Asian female stripped and chained to a wall “Turned woman” reflects the issues surrounding gender inequality, underlining women's position in Korean society. This work was inspired by 'The Slave Market' by the French Painter Jean-Léon Gérôme, who refers to women as objects or “commodities”. This series highlights the discrimination of women who are often used commercially to attract the hyper-sexualized male gaze.
