"DISORDER" explores the human body as a symbol of order and structure, while showing how distortion can reveal deeper personal values. Through this work, Dayeon Kim challenges societal norms, deconstructs social frameworks, and reimagines environments that reflect her identity. The exhibition raises critical questions about the fluidity of cultural mixing and the ambiguity of societal functions. Kim’s sculptures embody the tension between inherited values and personal beliefs, expressed through fragmented, disembodied forms that represent the disintegration of established systems.
Kim's eerie and fragmented clay sculptures evoke a delicate balance between familiarity and unease, distorting the human form to invite viewers into a space of reflection and introspection. This juxtaposition of the familiar and the unfamiliar generates a complex emotional response, blending comfort with discomfort. Her work explores the erosion of hierarchical structures, particularly between genders, reflecting the social and political confusion of contemporary society. As new ideas disrupt traditional values, Kim delves into a state of disorder where the boundaries between fiction and reality blur.
Through these disorienting transformations of the body, Kim encourages viewers to reconsider their perceptions of themselves and others. The exhibition’s atmosphere—simultaneously serene and unsettling—provokes a dreamlike reflection on the human form and its relationship to broader social constructs. In this engaging space, Kim offers a nuanced perspective on identity, diversity, and the body’s role within an ever-changing world.
