CURATORIAL STATEMENT
Weightless is a solo presentation of multidisciplinary artist DeepPond Kim, exploring themes of the body, mental health, and patriarchal culture through concepts of disembodiment and distortion. Utilizing innovative ceramic and painting techniques, DeepPond reinvigorates ideas of reincarnation and renewal, informed by her experiences as a Korean woman. Her work traverses the boundaries between beauty and the grotesque, with entangled limbs and segmented appendages suggesting the presence of multiple beings. Where does one body end and another begin?

DeepPond’s art possesses an eerie, unsettling quality, blurring the lines between fiction and reality, humor and horror. Her works provoke a heightened sense of awareness, questioning authenticity and the limitations of societal structures. They reflect a subtle yet pervasive sense of anxiety, as she turns the world upside down—twisting the familiar into a web of ironic, disturbing, and amusing emotions, inviting viewers into her world. Through visceral representations of the human figure, DeepPond conveys both intensely personal and universal experiences, using the metaphor of the body and its parts to create a narrative that transcends physicality. Her pieces are at once disruptive and soothing, prompting viewers to reflect on their relationship with their physical selves and the stories they carry.
